'Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall' was built in the 16th century as a residence for Bess of Hardwick, Countess of Shrewsbury. It has exceptionally large windows, especially for a time when glass was a luxury, which was a statement of Bess' wealth and power. It has been owned by the National Trust since 1959. The Great British Food Festival at Hardwick will be situated on the lawn with views of the incredible building.
